From Mauritius With Love

Unless you're a real jetsetter, Mauritius is probably not amongst your passport stamps. Located off the southeast coast of Africa, the island is diverse, with a populace that counts Indian, African, Chinese, French, and formerly, dodo bird heritage. Half-Mauritian vocalist and percussionist Mo Kolours shares the rich culture of his homeland, incorporating traditional folk sounds into blunted, modern dub compositions. Released in February, his second EP Banana Wine, rolls loosely from jingle to clap, rhythmic and mysterious, cool and sure of itself. Percussion provides structure, stringing together the freeform vocals with chattering drums. It's sometimes danceable, and other times simply eerie.
