Ring The Bell

One element towers all others on Tomas Barfod's excellent Salton Sea LP, released (eons ago) in May on LA's FoF Music. The Danish producer and drummer best known for his work with WhoMadeWho, navigates the creative process with delicacy, considerate of how each decision factors into the greater whole. The cautious intimacy of perfectionism resonates through Barfod's choice of guest vocalists, who offer little in the way of name recognition but prove integral to his compositions, naturally extending the varied moods of the album while adding fathoms of depth. Some months after stepping away from this release, I finally got around to listening to FoF Music's radio show on dublab where an unreleased track from Barfod titled "The Bell" was played. Caught by the soulful, airy vocals of Danish singer Liv Lykke, I was reminded of the importance of patience, of prioritizing the pieces over the seams. A radiant whole rightly allowed to stand on its own, "The Bell" speaks to Barfod's quiet brilliance. Preview and purchase Tomas Barfod's Salton Sea LP via Bandcamp.
